Vampires are the oldest people in the universe, having appeared over 400 years ago. Their skin is white because their planet, Demetrius, is so far from its sun. Even the days there are dark. They are cold-blooded because temperatures are much lower than elsewhere, making them more resistant to the harsh conditions. Their eyes are red because their pupils can see far in the dark, giving them this particular color.
On Demetrius, nutritional resources are scarce and limited. The vampire's body has become accustomed to receiving little nourishment, while still being able to function with rigor and energy. They can also hibernate, which not only enables them to survive the toughest times, but also to recharge their forgotten memories. Another defense system: blood allows them to feed themselves in times of emergency, as their organism has adapted to this form of digestion. Finally, they are also immune to disease, and their skin heals 3 times faster than that of other races when kept away from light sources.
When a vampire has finished growing as a young adult, its body hardly ages at all. Vampires have a phenomenal life expectancy, so much so that some of the original vampires have still not known death after 400 years of existence. However, pieces of their memory are disappearing, and hibernation is the only way they have found to recharge it and retain their personality. Vampires can hibernate for up to a decade, usually with their partners.
Despite their apparent eternal youth, they are just as deadly as other races: in accidents, suicides or simply in combat. Their aggressive immune system makes it extremely difficult for them to reproduce. Childbirth is particularly painful, and their demographic growth is paradoxically very low despite their longevity: if deaths are rare, so are births, since infants do not survive in their mother's body and are often devoured.
Vampires are charming by nature, no doubt to take advantage of their carnal love. Their bestial side can lead them to be aggressive in love as well as in conflict. Yet they have a great ability to keep their cool, thanks to the wisdom they have accumulated through long life experience.
On Mylen, they consider themselves superior to other races because of their advanced age, and they have some difficulty adapting to the warm, bright climate of the sandy planet.
Long ignored by the gods, vampires have come to Valdania's attention since her heart was broken and her mind invaded by a desire for vengeance. Conversely, Solweig, as a representative of the light, proves to be incompatible with these living beings of the shadows.
